Pair of bronze candlesticks depicting winged cherubs 'Allegory of Autumn and Spring'
Gilded bronze
Total height 41 cm.
Pair of 19th-century French gilded bronze sculptures resting on circular wooden bases, depicting Autumn and Spring.
The allegories are personified by two winged cherubs holding a candlestick torch, which can be used. The works bear the signature of Ernest Rancoulet (1870–1915), a renowned French bronzier and sculptor, famous for his neoclassical bronze figures of mythological creatures, high society women, and athletes.
He was a student of Lequesne and attended the municipal school of Bordeaux. Rancoulet participated in the Paris Salon for several years, regularly exhibiting his elegant statues and portrait busts.
