The console
A graceful piece of furniture for "porteghi" (main halls), living rooms, and parlors, the console, in the Rococo era, assumed countless forms, all invariably marked by the unstable lightness of the serpentine line, which expresses the fluid embodiment of "en cabriole" supports.
An emblem par excellence of opulence and the splendor that accompanies it, gold leaf entirely covers the Swiss pine structure of this refined console with a pink marble top, originating from "Venezia acqua" (water Venice).
Venezia acqua
The "Venezia acqua" Venetian furniture, in antique dealer jargon, is much more refined and of superior quality compared to Veneto furniture, which remains tied to provincial styles of the area surrounding Venice.
Authenticity
Several elements allow us to ascertain the originality of this console:
- A view from the bottom and back, even at first glance, allows us to identify the wood's period as dating back to the 18th century;
- The presence of similar works, useful for comparative study, published in "I Mille Mobili Veneti" by Clara Santini, pp. 167-168-169; "Il mobile veneziano del '700" by G. Morazzoni.
- Its exhibition at Modenantiquaria, a high-end antique fair where the exhibition of any item is permitted only after a thorough examination by a dedicated group of experts called the Commission.
