Carlo Giuseppe Ratti (Savona 1737 Genoa 1795) Madonna with Child, Saint Joseph and Saint John the Baptist, oil on canvas, late 18th century A delicate sacred composition depicting the Madonna with the Child in her arms, flanked by Saint Joseph and a tender Saint John the Baptist, who offers his hand to the Child Jesus. The latter holds a small bird, a clear symbol of the future sacrifice. The banner with the inscription "Ecce Agnus Dei" underlines the iconological meaning of the scene. Attributed to Carlo Giuseppe Ratti, an exponent of late 18th-century Ligurian classicism, the painting is characterized by harmonious volumes, warm colors and an intimately devotional atmosphere.
