Tempera on parchment depicting The Presentation at the Temple, in a beautiful contemporary frame, 17th century.
The work, small in size but of remarkable expressive intensity, shows Mary presenting the Child to the high priest in the temple, while Joseph watches with an absorbed gaze. At the base of the altar, two doves are visible, a symbol of the ritual sacrifice prescribed by Mosaic Law.
The painting is distinguished by the quality of the drawing, the skillful use of color, and the vivacity of the expressions, elements that testify to an expert hand in the field of religious miniature on precious supports. The golden halo and the draperies defined in lapis lazuli blue and carmine red give the scene a spiritual and symbolic force of great impact.
The tempera is preserved within a splendid carved wooden frame, contemporary, with rich baroque volutes and leaf gilding, which enhances its preciousness and devotional function.
