Oil painting on panel depicting the scene of the Crucifixion, 17th century.
The work, small in size but of great expressive intensity, captures the preparatory moment of the torment: the exhausted body of Christ is nailed to the cross by four executioners in agitated attitudes, in an atmosphere full of pathos and tension.
The composition, dense and dynamic, is played on dark tones and warm earth colors, with strong chiaroscuro contrasts that give plastic relief to the figures. The dramatic gesture and the vigor of the brushstrokes recall the baroque painting of a naturalist layout.
The painting is embellished by an important contemporary frame, carved and gilded, which amplifies its decorative and devotional value.
