The proposed view captures the beauty and majesty of one of the most iconic places in Venice, Piazza San Marco, which has always been one of the favorite views of travelers who, passing through the lagoon city for the canonical Grand Tour, wanted an image of the city to take home with them.
With a perspective that allows you to admire the square in its entirety, with the Basilica of San Marco and the Campanile dominating the background.
The work, although created by an early 19th-century painter, is clearly influenced by the great Venetian masters of the 18th century, Canaletto and Bellotto in particular, where the plays of light and the colors of the buildings emerge with particular realism.
Observing its compositional aspects, we can see that its creator possesses stylistic qualities very similar to those of the great masters, including the ability to realistically represent details and immortalize the daily life of the lagoon city, giving the painting a sense of movement and vitality.
The careful execution allows for a lenticular reading of the view and to fully enjoy its aesthetic qualities, especially when we observe the most minute details.
Over the centuries, Venice has been so often immortalized by both Italian and foreign artists that it has led to the birth of vedutismo, a new iconographic genre particularly appreciated by the cultured and wealthy travelers of the Grand Tour, eager to return home with a faithful snapshot of the enchanting beauties admired in the Bel Paese.
The splendor of 18th-century Venetian Vedutismo did not end with the end of the Republic of Venice, but continued during the following century, and our work is an excellent testimony to this.
