Rare example of a Hispano-Moresque 'display' plate from the prestigious Valencian ceramic production of Manises, which had workshops at the forefront of luster decoration firing. This is an example of excellent workmanship, especially regarding the beauty of the copper-colored luster and the fact that it is from a fairly early period. Indeed, due to the type of decoration with slender and elegant vegetal racemes among pine cones and other phytomorphic elements, we can date this plate between the last quarter of the 15th century and the early 16th century. In addition to the beauty of the fascinating stylized decorations, the quarters filled with full luster that lead to the central pulpit are remarkable.
As evidence of its early date, the decorations on the bottom of the plate can be compared to some documented in specialized books on medieval and 15th-century Valencian ceramics.
Plate diameter: 40.5cm.
The conditions are excellent, because the plate is intact and has no breaks or cracks. Unfortunately, however, due to reckless display solutions, a hole was made on the rim and a rather invasive metal hanger was also applied through a hole.
The carved frame on which it is mounted is from the early 20th century and its diameter is 56cm.
