Description:
Exceptional monk's table in walnut, made in Veneto at the end of the 17th century, a perfect balance between austerity and baroque refinement, a distinctive stylistic feature of Venetian cabinet-making production of the time.
The entire structure is built in solid walnut, a noble and durable wood, enhanced by a beautiful patina that returns warmth and depth to the surface. The top consists of a single large walnut board, a valuable element that testifies to the high quality of the construction.
The most distinctive part of this table lies in the base: the legs, shaped with sinuous volutes, are connected by elegant double-curved crosspieces, masterfully carved according to a fully baroque, but never excessive, decorative lexicon. The rhythmic movement of lines and curls creates a dynamic play that visually lightens the robustness of the structure.
The assembly is made with traditional mortise and tenon joints, without hardware. The central crosspieces, often present in refectory tables of this type, serve a dual function: they reinforce structural stability and act as an ornamental element. The lower part is connected to the top with dovetail joints.
The name "fratino" (meaning "friar's") recalls the tables used in convents, from which this piece of furniture takes inspiration, although it is a much more evolved and refined version, intended for patrician residences.
Perfect as a console table, center table in an entrance, or dining table.
