This elegant piece of furniture from the Napoleon III period features a magnificent "Boulle" marquetry, named after Charles-André BOULLE, master cabinetmaker to King Louis XIV, who made this technique famous. It involves the inlay of chiseled brass on a tortoiseshell background. This ornamentation is found in various places, particularly at the top, on the front, and on the jambs, always on a black background of blackened wood, which creates a beautiful contrast. The chiseled brass inlays form intertwined scrolls, foliage, and arabesques.
The door opens to the right and is composed of four concave elements at the corners: these are separated by chiseled bronze hardware, one of which has a key to open it. The lock is functional. The central part of the oval motif features a large bronze molding, decorated with flowers and pearls. The mahogany interior has two shelves of the same wood.
This high-quality piece of furniture is embellished with a series of bronzes, including sculpted siren-shaped drops at the top of the jambs, flower-shaped drops, and semicircular corners. Two moldings of the same alloy embellish the upper part. A third petal molding embellishes the projection of the base, while its perimeter, like that of the semicircular corners, is finely underlined by brass thread inlays on blackened wood.
The piece is topped by an original veined white Carrara marble in perfect condition, which adds an extra sparkle to the whole.
This exceptional two-hundred-year-old piece of furniture is sure to add a sumptuous touch to your home.
