Lombard chest of drawers with drawers from the late 17th to the early 18th century. The front is divided into four paneled drawers, with the top one hinged to fold down, revealing a tripartite set of six paneled drawers, each with its original lock. The walnut top, finished with an elegant ogee edge, is longitudinally divided into two hinged halves that open to access the drawers and the support surface created when the top drawer front is lowered. The sides of the chest are framed with molded panels, and the front feet are compressed onion-shaped, typical of the late 17th to early 18th century. The piece is in perfect condition and has a splendid original patina. These chests, the most prized of their time, were often used as writing desks, the open space providing a perfect surface for reading or writing. The dimensions of the inner drawers were often calculated to fit the size of the documents they were intended to hold. Originating from Lombardy in the late 17th to early 18th century, it measures 102 x 147 x 71 cm. As with all our items, this piece comes with certificates of authenticity and legal provenance. We personally handle and organize the packing and insured shipping of artworks worldwide.
