Description: French Napoleon III Credenza from the second half of the 19th century in the style of "VERNIS MARTIN".
The front features a hinged door with a painting depicting a love scene in the center, enriched by two fluted columns on the sides terminating in Corinthian capitals in gilded bronze.
The recessed top is in white statuary marble, the key is original to the period.
The undertop band is adorned with a gilded bronze trim with a Marie Antoinette rosette in the center.
Vernis Martin: The technique was developed in 1728 by the Martin brothers, who held the monopoly for twenty years. It was applied in superimposed layers, then left to dry and then painted with landscapes, figures, and genre scenes.
The decorations on the Vernis Martin were entrusted to skilled painters. The fashion of Vernis Martin continued into the 19th century, and lacquered and painted furniture became one of the characteristics of the Napoleon III style.
