19th century
Black lacquer, various wood and ivory inlays.
Concealed drawer on the front
120 x 80 h.75
Excellent condition
Magnificent Louis XIV style desk/table entirely inlaid with precious woods and ivory with floral and animal motifs.
The inlays, executed in a very refined manner, cover the entire surface of the top, the sides and the elegant crosspiece that joins the 4 twisted legs in black lacquer.
All the profiles of the structure are elegantly decorated with a geometric border of ebony and ivory tiles arranged to create a black and white ribbon.
The decorative layout of the top features a majestic vase of flowers placed on a base from which two elaborate symmetrical vegetal volutes start.
The quality of the inlays is remarkable, giving the sensation of perfectly painted surfaces. The use of exotic woods, particularly bright and with golden hues, creates a magnificent contrast with the black lacquered background.
This important piece of furniture is a splendid production of the best French cabinet making of the 19th century, which after the parenthesis of the Empire style returned to propose the glories of the golden centuries, with the extraordinary "Boulle" inlays in brass and tortoiseshell or as in this case with the most precious exotic wood essences.
