Beautiful antique French monumental wall tapestry, 18th century. It depicts a bucolic landscape with a beautiful romantic scene among trees and vegetation, a small bird perched on a branch, a lady seated on the riverbank with her companion holding a small dog, and finally a male figure leaning on a stone base. Hand-painted with the grass juice technique, the design of the preparatory cartoon was not woven, but painted by allowing it to be absorbed by the fabric (often silk straw). Various plant pigments were used, and the result was a pictorial rendering similar to watercolor, which was very fashionable during the 18th century. The tapestry and the scene are further enriched by a border with leaves. The work presents itself with a high-quality realization technique. Shows some signs of wear.
