Vienna, 1825-30 approx. Extraordinary resting sofa from Viennese Biedermeier, with sober and elegant lines, veneered in blond walnut feather. Line of refined elegance and incredible modernity. High Viennese cabinetmaking that could also be attributed to the production of Joseph Danhauser or his circle. This is in addition to the ingenious line and stylistic details, also for the masterful executive technique with the strongly curved sides. To obtain such a strong curvature, the ingenious cabinetmaker, after having made the stave structure of the sides with soft wood, applied the walnut feather veneers in the most curved points, manually thinned and then mirrored in the characteristic mode of Viennese furniture of the empire and biedermeier, on a first layer of veneering made across the grain with elastic essence, probably beech. This complex and ingenious technique of "thinning and double veneering" served to avoid the fracture of the same in the most curved points precisely. The work is in very good conditions of preservation and integrity; it is in first patina, with shellac finish applied with a pad with museum standard technique. It is finally upholstered with the original technique of the period, without the use of springs. The upholstery of the backrest is original and intact; it has been sanitized and covered by us. Underneath the splendid satin "antique green" Juaquard fabric with rose motifs, lies, protected, the original fabric of the period which we have specifically preserved with a state-of-the-art conservation technique. The lateral rose motifs are carved and gilded with leaf. Restored and consolidated with shellac finish applied with a pad with museum standard technique. A similar work, with similar lines, also veneered in walnut feather on softwood and beech, owned by the national collection of the Vienna Furniture Museum, from the castle of Schonbruenn, was exhibited at the international exhibition "Biedermeier, the invention of simplicity", Albertina , Vienna, year 2007, catalog II - 63 (see photo at the bottom of the page).
