"The Bather," from the 1920s, a work by André Favory (Paris 1888 – 1937), signed in the lower left.
The female nude seen from behind offers Favory the opportunity for one of his paintings of voluptuous eroticism, subtly teased also by the enveloping fusion with nature and the sensual presence of water, in which the woman is immersed up to her waist.
The artist worked on the fascination of the female nude throughout the 1920s, making it the prevailing theme of his last decade of artistic production.
The cubist code that the painter had adopted in the previous decade, when his language had formed under the influence of Cézanne and the cubist movement, is still recognizable in the painting.
Oil on canvas, 65 x 46 cm, in excellent condition, in a contemporary carved and lacquered frame.
