Stormy seascapes with galleons on the coasts.
Orazio Grevenbroeck (Milan 1676 - Naples 1739)
Pair of oil paintings on canvas.
First canvas with original frame and stretchers.
Canvas 50 x 34 cm
Frame 56 x 40 cm
Excellent condition.
Intact works, never cleaned and without restorations.
This rare pair of magnificent capriccios depicting coastal views with galleons at the mercy of the waves should be included as unpublished works in the catalog of Orazio Grevembroeck.
Son of Giovanni and brother of Alessandro, together with them and with the same unmistakable pictorial style, Orazio produced a series of splendid seascapes.
The setting always follows the same pattern with imaginary Mediterranean views depicting ports, rocky coasts and the inevitable boats where detailed images of sailing ships and galleons stand out.
The splendid seascapes published here stand out from the usual canons of his production, which sees the bright bays with the calm sea and the boats anchored in the harbor. Stormy seascapes are in fact a very rare scene for Grevembroeck's works.
We find the identical characteristics in a painting entitled "Storm on the Coast" by Orazio Grevembroeck exhibited at the Kunthistorisches Museum in Vienna, measuring cm. 20 x 35 (see photo).
The sea waves seem to be part of our same paintings Link:
