Intact works, never cleaned or restored.
This rare pair of magnificent capriccios depicting coastal views with galleons at the mercy of the waves should be included as unpublished works in the catalog of Orazio Grevembroeck.
Son of Giovanni and brother of Alessandro, together with them and with the same unmistakable pictorial style, Orazio produced a series of splendid seascapes.
The setting always follows the same pattern with imaginary Mediterranean views depicting ports, rocky coastlines, and the inevitable boats, where meticulous images of sailing ships and galleons stand out.
The splendid seascapes published here stand out from the usual standards of his production, which sees the luminous bays with the calm sea and the boats anchored in the harbor. Stormy seascapes are in fact a very rare scene for the works of Grevembroeck.
We find identical characteristics in a painting entitled "Storm on the coast" by Orazio Grevenbroeck exhibited at the Kunthistorisches Museum in Vienna which measures cm. 20 x 35. (see photo).
