The fine painting, executed in oil on canvas, depicts a landscape of the Italian countryside with some ruins and wayfarers on the bank of a river.
From the stylistic examination and the type of canvas used, it is clear that the work was created in the 18th century by a painter probably of Northern European training active in Italy. Historical and artistic studies are currently underway to outline the historical and cultural context of the artist.
The painting shows in the foreground a body of water towards which some wayfarers are approaching. In the background, but of great scenic presence, are described some architectural ruins, among which a pyramid can be seen, an element much loved by painters of the time. Beyond the path traveled by the characters, in the distance you can see a town with turreted walls and even beyond the landscape fades into the horizon illuminated by the glow of a warm light, characteristic of sunset. The clear sky is marked by some vaporous clouds of good weather that hold pinkish grays.
This painting, in which you can observe the hand of the painter who with short touches and rapid brushstrokes has been able to give vitality and freshness to the depicted scene, is as a whole a valuable work with strong decorative connotations. The pleasant subject and the contained dimensions, although not small, make the work easily insertable in any official or private context.
The work, in good condition, has recently undergone a cleaning and aesthetic re-presentation by removing the yellowed paint, retouching some small portions of the painting and final repainting.
