Lombard chest from the first half of the 17th century, made in the territory between the upper Lake Iseo and the Camonica Valley (between Bergamo and Brescia).
Measurements: width cm.155; depth cm.55; height cm.57
Lid-front-back-sides made of single solid walnut planks; lid with toothed chain and typical warping (slight); free central front framed by a light perimeter carving; strongly projecting lateral pilasters with fluted beaks each ending with four curls; high carved ovolo molding with ovoid bosses emerging from acanthus leaves, supported by a linear shelf of 16th-century tradition; front feet with walnut animal paws, rear supports in poplar; internal drawer and original lock.
Proportions, plank thicknesses, high ovolo molding, underlying shelf, are all characteristics that perpetuate constructive logics still from the 16th century, in line with the traditionalism (if desired, the delay) typical of the Lombard highlands.
Restorations: in the left rear corner of the lid, a thin triangular fragment (cm.3x25) is a 19th-century restoration; the same applies to the fourth upper curl on the right in the right pilaster; the lid hinges are from the 18th century (they replaced the original ring hinges).
Overall, the furniture has reached our time in very good condition.
