VAN BLOEMEN Pieter, nicknamed the Standard-Bearer, born in Antwerp in 1657, died in 1720. Flemish painter. Brother of Jan Frans. He was initially a pupil of the battle painter Douw. Between 1674 and 1694 he lived in Rome where he specialized in the genre of battles. His technique is similar to that of Wouwerman; like him he demonstrates great skill in portraying animal figures, especially horses. SOLD
