This console table was made in the early 19th century in Venice from carved and gilded wood. The recessed top is made of wood painted to resemble marble. The console, of considerable size, features a Louis XV style line, with a highly shaped top, an undulating frieze, and curved legs. The frieze on the front and sides has carved decoration with volutes and phytomorphic elements in the Rocaille taste. The four legs are adorned with raised floral tendrils and carved feet. This majestic console table, despite its rich and ornate design, appears well-balanced, light, decorative, and very pleasing. In important Italian Baroque palaces, console tables were among the most sought-after furnishings, an emblem of the patron's wealth, to be displayed in large reception rooms. This type of highly decorative furniture is still very impressive today and contributes to the grandeur of any space it occupies. The shine of the gold and the large dimensions of this console table make it an important piece of furniture, perfect for an entrance hall, a living room, or a salon, to be paired with antique or modern furnishings.
