Lev Pavlovich Khodchenko (Shimanovka 1912 - 1998) - Still life of fish and vase.  Translated
Description:
Lev Pavlovich Khodchenko (Shimanovka 1912 - 1998) - Still life of fish and vase. 60 x 80 cm (unframed) - 72 x 92 cm (framed). Oil on canvas, in a wooden frame. Work signed lower right: "Khodchenko". Work signed and dated on the reverse: "1963". Lev Pavlovich Khodchenko was a Soviet painter of academic training, working in the tradition of realism that characterized the Russian school of the twentieth century. His production ranges from landscapes to still lifes, with a lively chromatic sensibility and loose brushstrokes of Impressionist descent. In this painting, dated 1963, the artist arranges some fish and a terracotta vase on a white surface, against the background of a garden animated by patches of autumnal red. The impasto application and bright color, built up with quick touches, reveal a confident mastery of the en plein air technique and a taste for direct light and warm colors.
