Decorative plaster column - Eliodoro Coccoli Collection
Early 20th Century
Dimensions: Height 32 x 11.5 x 11.5 cm
This refined decorative column is a fine example of plaster sculpture, characterized by a cylindrical shaft structure with remarkable proportional balance. The work is distinguished by its richly illustrated iconography, with a standing female figure prominent in the central section. The figure's features and drapery are rendered through a skillful use of high relief, a technique that lends sculptural depth and a dynamic interplay of light and shade, framing the effigy within ornamental elements that enhance its vertical composition.
The shaft rests on a solid molded base, embellished with dense acanthus leaf motifs and symmetrical scrolls, clearly derived from the Corinthian order but here reinterpreted according to the eclectic taste of the early 20th century.
The top capital formally echoes the base's decorations, completing the structure in a harmonious whole with a striking visual impact.
Stylistically, the piece can be attributed to early 20th-century production, a period in which the revival of neoclassical statuary merged with new decorative sensibilities.
Of exceptional importance is the object's historical provenance, having previously been part of the private collection of the renowned Brescian artist Eliodoro Coccoli (1880-1974).
It is in excellent condition, with an original surface patina that enhances the texture of the plaster, showing slight, elegant signs of wear perfectly consistent with its age and the authenticity of the piece.
The work is currently on display in the monographic exhibition "Eliodoro Coccoli Magnifico Disegnatore" at the "Antichità Santa Giulia" gallery until December 31, 2026.
The work, like all our other objects, will be sold with a certificate of authenticity.
