Elegant Neoclassical Genoese Chest of Drawers – Louis XVI Period
Refined chest of drawers with two drawers (plus a sub-top drawer) of high Ligurian cabinetmaking, dating back to the last quarter of the 18th century (full Louis XVI period). This piece represents the perfect balance between the geometric rigor of neoclassicism and the decorative richness typical of Genoese craftsmanship of the era.
Technical and Construction Features:
* Structure and Inlay: The piece features high-quality walnut, rosewood, olive, boxwood, and bois de rose veneer. The decoration is characterized by elegant rectangular reserves bordered by refined dark wood banding and contrasting fillets that create a harmonious chromatic play.
* Front: Divided into two large drawers plus a third narrower sub-top drawer. In the center of the main drawers, an inlaid rosette with foliate and floral motifs stands out, enclosed within a geometric frame.
* Sides and Top: The sides echo the decorative scheme of the front with inlaid central medallions. The top is also entirely inlaid with a large, coordinated central rosette, making the piece admirable from every angle.
* Supports: Typical "truncated pyramid" (tapering) feet, enriched with banding and ending with bronze sabots.
* Hardware: Chiseled bronze escutcheons and knobs, perfectly consistent with the aesthetics of the era.

The piece is in excellent general condition. The spirit and shellac polish enhances the grain and luster of the woods. The back and drawer bottoms are original fir wood.
