Liberty silver milk jug
Silver milk jug, 84 zolotniki, characterized by a slightly flared body with a scalloped rim and an angular spout. The sinuous handle develops vertically, and the surface is decorated with linear engraving (bulino) with stylized floral motifs and Liberty-style vegetal volutes, rendered with a thin, calligraphic stroke. Gilt interior (vermeil), typical of forms intended for serving liquids.
Imperial Russia; late 19th - early 20th century (pre-1908).
Hallmarks: 84 standard, kokoshnik with profile facing left (1896-1908 period) and factory mark in Cyrillic characters "???" (IFS) attributable to the workshop of Ivan Fyodorovich Sapogov, active in Moscow between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His most documented production falls between 1899 and 1908, during which time his works often bear the inspector's mark of Ivan Lebedkin "??" (IL).
