Oil on canvas. The painting is accompanied by an expertise on photo by Dr. Giovanni Gentile, art expert and appraiser for the Court of Milan, who attributes its paternity to Pieter De Witte, illegitimate son of Pieter I and his pupil. Pieter II, Dutch but who traveled and worked extensively in Italy, established himself with his classic landscapes, flooded with light and often occupied by classical architectural remains. In this work too, the luminous effect that inundates the forest and the architectural capriccio below from the sky stands out. The atmosphere is silent and devoid of signs of living beings, allowing a "sense of a dying arcadia" to dominate. The painting has undergone restoration and relining in the past. It is presented in a period-style frame.
