Beautiful rectangular table with a top in scagliola and marble, and with a Louis XVI style base, Northern Italy, late 18th century. The artifact represents a valuable example of high cabinetmaking combined with the refined decorative tradition of scagliola, a technique particularly appreciated in aristocratic courts and palaces.
The scagliola top, framed by a marble band, is embellished with a rich ornamental composition of scrolls, volutes, flowers, and phytomorphic motifs, symmetrically arranged around a central motif, on a dark background. The lively polychromy, played out in shades of red, green, blue, ivory, and ochre, creates a refined chromatic contrast and a remarkable decorative effect.
The wooden structure, with a veneered perimeter band and tapered quadrangular legs, recalls Neoclassical taste, with sober and balanced lines and dark wood inlay, and features pyramidal trunk legs.
