Christ Pantocrator – Russian icon, 19th century  Translated
Description:
The Russian icon Christ Pantocrator – 19th century, Central Russia is an extraordinary testament to Orthodox devotion and the continuity of Byzantine tradition. Executed in egg tempera on panel, it measures 31.5 x 27 cm and belongs to the period when the Russian school combined calligraphic precision and profound spiritual sensitivity. Christ Pantocrator is depicted frontally, with a direct and solemn gaze, a symbol of his divine omnipotence. With his right hand he imparts liturgical blessing, while with his left he holds the open Book of Gospels, on which are written the words: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Mt 11:28). This gesture combines authority and compassion, synthesizing the dual nature of Christ, Judge and Savior. The golden background, richly decorated with incised floral motifs, reflects light and accentuates the transcendent dimension of the image. The intense colors of red and blue, combined with delicate golden highlights, reveal the technical quality of the workshops of Central Russia, known for their sober elegance and fidelity to ancient canons. This work is distinguished by the perfect balance between theological rigor and aesthetic refinement: the face of Christ, both sweet and severe, expresses the mystery of the Incarnation and the living presence of the divine Logos in the world. An icon of Christ Pantocrator of profound spiritual intensity, ideal for collectors and lovers of sacred art who desire an authentic testimony of the Orthodox tradition.  Translated
