Refined white marble sculpture depicting a young woman caught in the act of covering herself with a drapery, an iconography reminiscent of the "surprised bather" theme, a subject dear to the Rococo taste of the 18th century. The model, attributable to the work of the celebrated French sculptor Étienne-Maurice Falconet (1716–1791), fits into the Neoclassical tradition of mythological and allegorical subjects interpreted in a sentimental vein. The signature FALCONET engraved on the base refers to the most widespread models in French manufactories of the time.
