Splendid walnut veneered fall-front desk, with walnut burl trim and reserves, perfectly preserved and original in all its parts. The front, slightly convex, is divided into a first lower drawer followed by three drawers of equal size, embellished with elegant burr walnut reserves defined by molded, shaped and ebonized frames, typical of the refined Lombard cabinetmaking of the eighteenth century.
The edges are enhanced by shaped uprights that end in introverted curl feet, giving the piece of furniture a harmonious and refined line. The folding top conceals three pairs of burr walnut veneered drawers inside, perfectly symmetrical. Behind them hides a secret drawer, while the upper shelf of the cabinet also opens as a drop-leaf, revealing a further hidden compartment: details that testify to the craftsmanship and design care of the time.
The original bronze knobs, with an unusual and finely chiseled shape, real decorative gems that enhance its charm, complete the piece of furniture.
The ebonized frames and the walnut and burr walnut veneers, laid with great skill, give preciousness and character to this splendid example of Lombard cabinetmaking. Due to its structure, construction quality and decorative solutions - such as the shaped uprights and the introverted curl foot - the piece of furniture strongly recalls another fall-front desk we own, signed by the cabinetmaker Giuseppe Antonio Villa of Legnano. A comparison that underlines its importance and probable attribution.
