"River landscape with fisherman"
Oil on canvas, 14.4 x 20 cm
This delightful pair of evocative lagoon and river landscapes, enlivened by vibrant figures, is the work of Giuseppe Bernardino Bison (Palmanova, 1762 – Milan, 1844), the famous artist who brilliantly concluded the joyful season of 18th-century Venetian painting.
The beautiful pair of paintings studied here, which displays all the peculiar stylistic and chromatic characteristics of Giuseppe Bernardino Bison's art, can be dated to the early 19th century, when the artist had moved to Trieste, where he worked diligently to satisfy the requests of the city's numerous and important collectors, at that time in full economic development under Habsburg rule.
