Angelo Da Campo (Verona 1735-1826)
Landscape with shepherds and horsemen
Oil on canvas, 120 x 137 cm
This painting is accompanied by an expertise of Pier Luigi Fantelli who attributes it to the Veronese Angelo da Campo. The hypothesis is supported by the existence of a canvas closely comparable to this one, signed "Angelus de Campo F. Verone" and dated 1772, which passed several years ago on the antiquarian market, at the Ribolzi Gallery in Monte Carlo.
Da Campo probably trained under the guidance of Michelangelo Prunati, as reported by Diego Zannandreis, who dedicated a biography to the artist within his Lives of Veronese painters, sculptors and architects (work published in 1891, but written in the thirties of the nineteenth century); subsequently - again according to Zannandreis - he "set himself to work alone painting several panels and paintings that won him esteem".
