This military scene, centered on the signing of a treaty for the suspension of hostilities or the surrender of a besieged city, as can be deduced from the description of the backgrounds, with artillery positions placed in special openings made on buttresses, near artificial mounds of soil, guarded by soldiers and on which flags are hoisted, is an interesting new acquisition to Simonini's already substantial catalog. In fact, it combines his specific peculiarities as a battle painter with those of a landscape painter, the latter of which continued to be cultivated even in his full maturity, often as a background to military scenes, whether they are real battles, or troop movements, camps or episodes related to military campaigns...
