His stylistic imprint brilliantly combines the optical clarity of Van Wittel and Lint with the tradition of the ideal landscape made famous by Van Bloemen. In Anesi, however, we perceive a 'romantic' sensibility, reinforced by a peculiar attention to the luminous values, contiguous to the examples of Venetian landscape painting popularized by Marco Ricci and Francesco Zuccarelli. Contributing to identify the territory in which we find ourselves are the ruins of a Roman arch, evoking the idea of the landscape that surrounds the city of Rome, and the course of the Tiber that punctuates the balanced overlapping of the perspective planes, which can be traveled with the eye through the course of the river itself. The effect is of pleasant scenic impact, not only for the accuracy with which the landscape is described, but also for the wise harmony of chromatic and luminous counterpoints. The scenography, although respectful of reality, betrays for atmospheric values a fantasy aimed at transfiguring the view, reproducing the atmospheric sensitivity of the air steeped in light, evoking a delicate Arcadian emotionality. The painting is in excellent condition, perfectly restored, accompanied by a pleasant gilded gold leaf frame.
