The painting represents an important testimony, from a historical and iconographic point of view, regarding the figure of Bartolomeo Pesenti, from Verona, belonging to a family originally from Bergamo, who was a founder of weapons and bells in the 17th century.
The largest bell, located in the civic tower of Bergamo, is the work of Pesenti, who created it in 1655. A bell by Pesenti can also be found in the Church of Sant'Anastasia in Verona.
In our portrait, it is possible to decipher the inscription contained in the letter seen in the lower right.
