This magnificent composition depicts two cherubs intent on supporting a garland of flowers, placed on a refined architecture with bas-reliefs and masks, presumably the top of a fountain.
One of the two cherubs nicely supports part of it with his hands, while turning his head towards the viewer; the second cherub, on the other hand, must have clumsily broken the thread that held its end, and is sitting sullenly with a torch and a tear running down his chubby cheek.
Given the stylistic characteristics and compositional taste, the work is attributable to the Flemish artist Jacob de Wit (Amsterdam, 1695 - 1754), or to an author from his workshop, with his typical triumphant and opulent style, which .... (full details directly on our website LINK)
