This is a charming genre painting executed by a talented artist who tends to represent carefree scenes of daily life, in this case this likeable boy struggling to cut a melon. It is possible to find tangible stylistic assonances with the excellent pictorial and portraiture methods of Vittore Ghislandi, known as Fra Galgario, especially in the coloristic warmth used and the expressive frankness of the subject.
The painting certainly deserves more in-depth studies. The canvas is in excellent overall condition, with a fairly recent relining, and is mounted on a beautiful gilded and carved frame in style.
Measurements cm 34 x 42 / frame measurements cm 50 x 58.
