Oil painting on canvas depicting Artemisia preparing to drink the ashes of her deceased husband Mausolus, before building the famous Mausoleum in his memory. The dramatic subject is dear to the painters of the 17th century. Our painting can be attributed to the master Pietro della Vecchia, born in Venice in 1603 and died there in 1678, official painter of the Republic of Venice. The painting is accompanied by a comprehensive and detailed technical sheet drawn up by Professor Bernard Aikema, who includes it among the works of Pietro della Vecchia. The painting is in perfect condition and has not undergone significant restoration work. It measures 61 x 78 cm without frame, 84 x 93 cm with frame, which is not from the same period.
