Francesco Tironi (Venice 1745 - Venice 1797) was a Venetian painter and engraver known for being one of the last vedutisti (view painters) active during the 18th century. Information about him is relatively scarce, but Tironi is recognized and appreciated by collectors for the significant contribution he made to the Venetian veduta of the eighteenth century.
His style reflects the lesson of Francesco Guardi, with the use of a contrasting chromatic palette that alternates brown tones with bursts of light, all to create a more atmospheric than calligraphic effect in his paintings.
This pair of large landscapes represents a rare example in which the painter did not try to paint Venice, but rather to represent the Venetian countryside. We find the typical colors and tones of Tironi, from the clouds in the sky to the "macchiette" (small figures), this time dressed as country figures instead of gondoliers.
