Louis XVI center table, Southern Italy, late 18th century
Elegant oval-shaped center table, made in Southern Italy in the late 18th century, in full Louis XVI style. The piece of furniture, with a sober and refined taste, is veneered in violet wood with refined geometric inlays in light and dark woods. The structure has fluted and tapered legs, joined at the bottom by a removable arched shelf. The upper top is recessed and finished with a green marble, a typical element of fine furnishings of the period. The drawer, embellished with a gilded bronze escutcheon and contemporary floral knobs, reveals an executive skill of high cabinet making.
