Lenci, "Fighting Rooster", Polychrome Ceramic, design by Vacchetti Sandro, Turin, 1930s
Polychrome ceramic sculpture, made by Lenci in Turin around the 1930s, based on a design by Vacchetti Sandro (1889 - 1974).
A figure of a rooster in slip-cast earthenware, painted with polychrome decoration.
The rooster designed by Vacchetti is a blend of fantasy and reality: it combines natural elements with abstract patterns in the feathers, giving it an ornamental quality, while the colors and details of the legs and eyes are realistic. There are many variations of this piece: the one in question appears in the Lenci merchandise catalog from 1933 to 1935.
