In the foreground is the dead Christ, lifeless and limply lying on Mary's lap, supported and adored by a woman who, kneeling on the left side of the composition, touches his hand with her face, and by two sad and adoring angels on the right. The figure of Mary, with her head surrounded by a shining halo, looks towards the viewer, with an expression full of emotion and inconsolable grief. The painting is particularly intense in the rendering of the feelings exhibited by all the figures depicted, and is in a good state of preservation. It is framed by a small 16th-century Venetian temple with freestanding columns, various carved details, and closed at the top by two opposing cornucopias.
