Elegant pair of Satsuma ceramic vases, made in Japan between the 1920s and 1930s. The vases feature a polychrome and golden decoration, executed with the relief technique typical of the Satsuma manufacture, depicting a procession of dignitaries and samurai in ceremonial robes.
The relief effect, enriched by pastille gilding and minute details, gives depth and refinement to the figurative scenes, perfectly distributed along the bulbous surface of the vases. The warm tones – cream, gold, red, green and black – are characteristic of the early 20th century Satsuma aesthetic.
Condition: excellent, with slight signs of age consistent with age. No chipping or visible restoration.
