Wonderful Italian painting signed and dated 1853. Oil on canvas, first canvas, artwork depicting the portrait of Christopher Columbus contemplating the rocks, of remarkable pictorial quality. The famous navigator is depicted while observing the horizon with navigation charts in his hands, before his incredible adventure. Painting signed and dated lower left "1853 Mauro Conconi" (1815-1860). Milanese painter famous for his splendid portraits and historical scenes, he exhibited several times in Brera and some of his works are now at the Galleria d'Arte Moderna in Milan. The subject with reference to the author can be easily found online in the general catalogue of cultural heritage.
