A sumptuous green drapery with fine golden edges acts as a scenic backdrop to this tender and joyful representation of the Madonna who holds her lively son tightly in her arms, in a playful and cheerful mood. He doesn't stand still and takes a very particular position, he is almost falling, he slides the fingers of his left hand under his mother's collar, as if it were a grip to hold on, while with the other he plays serenely with the thumb of his little foot. Joy and pride are expressed by the face of the Madonna who, without hesitating in impatience, smiles and holds him tightly in her arms.
Based on a first stylistic analysis and figurative elements, we can assert that we are looking at a painting, probably, executed in the close circle of the Pistoia Mannerist painter Leonardo Grazia (1503-1550ca.) who may have granted the iconographic prototype for the execution on canvas, given the close stylistic coincidences with his important graphic works.
The canvas measures 53cm x 42cm, the measurements with frame are: 61cm x 50cm.
