Description:
Elegant and unusual rectangular table in steam-bent beech (photo n°6) made in Austria in the early 1900s by the Mundus Factory: marked Hofmann (branded: photo n°9) and Mundus (tag: photo n°10). Original top in red Verona marble (photo n°8): this good model of typical production of those years was probably intended for a public place. In 1920, the Jewish merchant Leopold Pilzer had acquired many companies specialized in the production of furniture by unifying them in Mundus: among these companies he also acquired Thonèt which, during the First World War, in the immediate post-war period, experienced a difficult period and in the meantime became a joint-stock company.
