Vienna, circa 1815, Empire / first part of the Biedermeier period. Very rare Viennese Biedermeier wall mirror, from the very beginning of the period, in practically intact condition. The frame, decorated with ovolo motifs typical of the early Viennese Empire / Biedermeier period, inspired by the monuments of ancient Rome as was fashionable at the time, is leaf-gilded, alternating unpolished gilded parts with other masterfully polished raised parts. The gilding is original to the period. The glass part is original with tin amalgam. Patina and signs of use consistent with the era. The high technical quality in relation to the period of the mirror plate, because of the extension and the regularity of the surface, suggest a very high commission. Measures cm. 88 x 130.
