Elegant cambered frame for an altarpiece, originating from the Veneto area and datable between the late 16th and the very early 17th century. Made of carved poplar wood, it reflects the sober refinement of ecclesiastical furnishings belonging to peripheral churches or modest commissions, where artisanal quality was combined with economically contained solutions.
The surface is entirely lacquered in arte povera, with an original combination of green and white (white lead), designed to create contrast and depth between the reliefs and architectural profiles. The foliate motifs develop continuously along the uprights and the upper arch, while the lower crosspiece is enriched by a more lively carving in late Renaissance style.
The original lacquer is in good condition, with an authentic patina of great charm. Small consolidation and gluing interventions have been carried out. Slight traces of woodworm, limited to some areas of the carving, do not compromise the overall stability.
