Zatta Antonio the Paduan of Giovanni Valle Giustinopolitano Venice 1784. Delightful and detailed geographical map of the territory of Padua taken from the monumental Novissimo Atlas illustrated and enlarged on the observations and discoveries made by the most famous and recent geographers by Antonio Zatta published in four volumes, with maps of the whole world, between 1775 and 1785 at the Remondini printing house in Venice. In the upper left within a graceful rustic cartouche that detaches itself from the Renaissance reminiscences of previous cartographers, the title "Il Padovano di Giovanni Valle Giustinopolitano di Nuova Projezione" (The Paduan of Giovanni Valle Giustinopolitano of New Projection), followed by the signature of the publisher Antonio Zatta and the date 1784. Outside the graduated margin are indicated the cardinal points while in the lower left we find the signature of the engraver G. Zuliani inc. and on the right the designer G. Pitteri scr[isse]. The title underlines that the cartographic source used by Zatta for the compilation of the map is Giovanni Valle's model. The beautiful map is oriented with north at the top and represents, in a rather innovative way, only the Paduan territory with the indication in large characters of the bordering provinces (Trentino at the top, Vicentino on the left and Polesine di Rovigo at the bottom) but without reporting any geographical characteristics or representations; this allowed, together with the outline coloring of the internal divisions, to focus attention on the real subject of the map.
