The Antique Sculpture, from the 1930s, depicts an Athlete or Warrior with a Spear, expressing strength and power.
The artwork here presented is made of Antimony Metal, created in the first half of the 20th century. Art Déco.
The sculpture has its original 20th-century Green Patina and rests on a beautiful decorated black marble base.
The work, which expresses strength, elegance, and physical agility, is unsigned but attributed to Demétre Chiparus (1886-1947).
Chiparus was born in Romania. As a young man, he stayed in Italy, where he studied and had the Florentine sculptor Raffaello Romanelli as his teacher. He later moved to France and studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
His teachers were: Jean Boucher and Antonin Mercié.
In 1914, Chiparus began exhibiting his bronze or antimony sculptures at the Salon in Paris.
The sculpture and marble are in good condition.
